Actiontec one of many network equipment companies has developed a new power line network adapter, more compact, and supposedly higher speeds are offered via this new device. Never heard of a power line network adapter, well that may be because we don’t generally use them.
A power line network adapter allows users to use the power lines within the building as Ethernet cables essentially. With these devices you simply plug one device into a power outlet in one room and plug the other identical device into the power outlet in another room, connect and Ethernet cable to each device, and away you go. That’s the theory anyhow.
Many reviews of these types of device show a lot of issues with them from not working at all to working fine and everywhere in between. Usually the power in the lines tends to cause interference with the Internet connection traffic which results in subpar connection, hence why we don’t recommend them.
