CNN was hacked again

CNN was hacked again by the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA). This is not the first time that SEA has attacked CNN successfully. CNN said that the group has targeted their main Facebook profile, the Politic’s Facebook profile, and the Twitter Pages for CNN, CNN Security, Clearance, and the blogs for the Political Ticker.

CNN reported: “Some of our organization’s social media accounts were compromised. We have secured those accounts and are working to remedy the issue.”

Globe Earth On lineThe Syrian Electronic Army had attacked CNN back in August, as well as Time, the Washington Post and the New York Time, which it ended up forcing all but The New York Times to be off-line and were defaced.

SEA has been making a name for themselves and gaining more notoriety then the infamous group Anonymous. They have hacked Microsoft’s Office Blogs site within hours of their redesign. They posted the results on the Microsoft Twitter account that has been hi-jacked by them as well. They even ended up posting a screen shot of the administrative panel for the site to prove their level of access.

The road has not alway been smooth sailing for The Syrian Electronic Army. A Turkish group “TurkGuvenligi” has successfully hacked the SEA and proving the success by defacing the SEA home page. They stated: “You imbecils [sic] will attack our country with fake phishing emails and we’ll accept your lies and dont [sic] do anything? That is the end you deserve.”

The TurkGuvenligi have also started making a name for themselves by defacing the popular open-source software OpenSSL’s site. They released that they were able to modify the index.html file, no vulnerabilities in the OS or OpenSSL was used for defacement.

It is nice that there are so many groups out there with enough knowledge to compete on defacing pages to not only demonstrate weaknesses in security but are able to make statements that many people will end up hearing.
