“Detekt” Government Spyware

c270471_mIn the past few years, there have been multiple news articles about spying and government data leaks. Since then, the U.S. government has ramped up their efforts to “spy” on citizens for any suspicious activities. Some of us are security conscious and don’t like the fact that “Big Brother” may be watching over you. There are ways to keeping your communications secure when you’re online, such as using a VPN. A VPN will encrypt your traffic and prevent anyone, even the government, from snooping into your activities.

Just recently a developer has created a tool called “Detekt” to look for signs of spyware on your workstation. The main goal of this tool is raise the awareness of the use of spyware by governments and intelligence agencies around the world. You may ask, “What is spyware?” Well, it’s basically an intrusive tool that can allow the operator to have control over the workstation and also intrude into the life of the individual. Spyware provides the ability to read personal information such as pictures, emails, etc., and can remotely turn on your computers’ microphone and camera if it was programmed to do so.

Detekt is an open-source and free-to-use software which is available for download here.
