Many different free email services have come to over the years, AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. but just recently one of the new guys is now on top. For a number of years Hotmail claimed the prize as most used free email service but this past October they lost their grip on this title.
Gmail, Googles free email service passed Hotmail as the largest free email provider. Google currently has 287.9 million unique email users worldwide surpassing Hotmail by 1.7 million users last month.
Which Google is a newer company than Hotmail their many recent free offerings have played a huge role in their email service becoming number one. Probably one of the biggest advantages they have is the fact that all Android smartphones link to a Gmail account for sync not just your email and contacts but the apps users download to their phones as well.
