The Most Recent Apple Network Outage

Apple networkLast week, Apple reported many of its services were (in their words) “experiencing problems.” Simply put, their network crashed. Services that were affected were Apple Music, iBooks Store, iTunes, Apple TV, App Store and the Mac App Store.

News agency Reuters reported running checks of Apple sites in North and South America, Asia and Europe. All of which were affected by the outage. Apple posted a statement on its support page, “We are investigating and will update the status as more information becomes available.” They were able to repair the network and restore all of their services a few hours later, which is a much shorter turn around time than the 12-hours they were unavailable back in March. There have been no statements as to what really caused the problem last week, only that it was fixed.

There is speculation that MTV broke Apple’s network with the release of the 2015 VMA nominees, which of course was only released on Apple’s Beats 1 music service. This led to high levels of network traffic that was most likely unexpected.

Could this be a sign of things to come? We can’t wait for the next big announcement.
